Presentation Description

Remember how hard it was being a teen? Throw in a global pandemic, isolation and an impending recession. Not so easy. Have no fear teens have not lost their spice! For teens, in the middle of critical development, the last 2 years have been incredibly impactful, changing how they connect with peers, teachers and parents. During this presentation we will explore the GenZ experience, from
increased self-awareness, intersectionality, and ever-changing levels of safety. Not to mention access to globe events in real time adding vicarious trauma not experienced before. Oh yeah and just being a teen!

We will explore ways to make therapy fun, engaging and active for both the teen and the clinician. Mindfulness tools will be presented in a language that will meet teens where they are and encourage openness for more in-depth therapeutic processes. Utilizing the newly release book Mindfulness for Teen Anxiety, A Practical Guide to Manage Stress, Ease Worry and Find Calm by Jamie Roberts LMFT. This presentation will touch on the what Mindfulness Practice is, but the
emphasis will be on Teen Anxiety and utilizing Mindfulness as the tool of support.

The resources, tools and psychoeducation in this presentation are also appropriate for parents, teachers and allied professionals to utilize and share with teens in their lives. The goal is to nurture and empower our teens to move through their current stressors and experience peace.

Measurable Objectives

  1. Participants will be able to identify 4 unique stressors for today’s teens.
  2. Participants will gain insight on 4 areas that mindfulness can be implemented (Body, Thoughts, Emotions, Behaviors)
  3. Participants will receive 5 mindfulness activities that can be applied in the session immediately.
  4. Presenter will demonstrate 3 key components for developing rapport with teens in the therapeutic setting.
