Presentation Description

Energy healing traditions from around the world have provided mappings of subtle energy centers that intersect mind and body, linked to both physical anatomical locations and emotional energies. Contemplative energy work involves guiding individuals in exercises for connecting to these centers, aiding access to challenging emotions that may be difficult to process, and bringing forth empowering ‘wisdom’ energies to help.

Sexual trauma survivors in particular may benefit from such practices because they provide a non-invasive, self-paced tool for connecting to the body, emotions, and transformative power. Energy center, or ‘chakra’ work, can also be particularly helpful for addressing certain disassociation tendencies, boundary empowerment, and disconnection from sexual and sensual energies.

In this workshop you will learn a basic energy center/chakra mapping along with how sexual trauma tends to impact a survivors’ energy body and their relationship to it. Particular themes are boundary issues, disconnection from body, holding of shame, and relationship to internalized feminine/masculine.

You will also be guided through 3 introductory energy tools that are particularly helpful with sexual trauma survivors — one for grounding, one for boundary development, and one for reconnecting to and empowering sensual connection.

Measurable Objectives

  1. Understand what contemplative energy work is and how it may be incorporated into mental health care
  2. List 7 main energy centers and the ways they are impacted by sexual trauma
  3. Guide clients/patients through 3 contemplative energy center practices particularly relevant for sexual trauma survivors.
