Our Presentation

Based on Dr. Belle’s book “Using Relentless Empathy in the Therapeutic Relationship,” this presentation offers practical tools and tips to help therapists and clinicians across all modalities of counseling work with their most challenging clients. Emphasizing the use and power of empathic responsiveness, coupled with attachment science and interventions, participants will learn how to go straight to the heart of what ’s vital for building strong therapeutic alliances with even the most difficult clients.

Goals:

This workshop will present effective tools that clinicians can use to move away from pathological diagnostic labels toward engaging with clients in their distress by using their most valuable instrument―themselves―and harnessing the power of relentless empathy and attachment science.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this workshop, participants should understand:

  1. An attachment and humanistic approach to resistance in therapy.
  2. How to harness empathy as a clinical skill to shape therapeutic alliance with challenging clients.
  3. Common “Self of the Therapist” blocks towards having empathy for resistant clients.
