Course Description:

Participants will learn the latest information on cannabis, synthetic marijuana, and routes of administration (oral and Inhalational). Participants will also learn Information on pharmaceutical cannabinols, state indications for cannabis, cannabis historical background, DSM-5 definition, substance abuse, parameters for treatment, limitations of studies, safety data, abuse disorder, side effects, infections, evidence on managing pain, and the new laws regarding cannabis in California. In addition, participants will learn the effect of marijuana children/adolescents, and how this affects school performance and behavior. The effects of cannabis on cognition, neuropsychiatric effects of cannabis, the link between marijuana and schizophrenia, bipolar incident, and the risk of psychosis.

Bio for Dr. Chun C. Lai, MD, MHA

Dr. Lai has a Medical degree from the University of Rio de Janeiro, and a Masters in Healthcare Administration from California State University in Los Angeles. With initial training in adult psychiatry at the UCLA/ King Drew Medical Center from 1998 to 2001, Dr. Lai continued with a Post Graduate Fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of Southern California/Los Angeles County Medical Center from 2001 to June of 2003.  He then worked for Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, Hathaway-Sycamores Child, and Family Services, and Pacific Clinics. Upon moving to the Coachella Valley in 2006, Dr. Lai has been working for Riverside University Health System (formerly known as Riverside County Mental Health), and started working at Latino Commission in July of 2012. Dr. Lai is currently working at Latino Commission and Riverside County Mental Health. Dr. Lai is fluent in Spanish and Portuguese.

 This course meets the qualifications for one-and-a-half (1.5) hours of continuing education credit for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, and/or LEPs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.  Completion certificates will be awarded for full attendance of the event. 

Course evaluations are required to obtain the completion certificate.

The Desert Chapter of CAMFT is approved by the California Association of Marriage Family Therapists (Provider #62275) to sponsor continuing education for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, and LEPs.  The Desert Chapter of CAMFT maintains responsibility for the course and its content.
