In this workshop, Scott Kiloby - Director of the Kiloby Center and Founder/Trainer of a worldwide community of mindfulness teachers - will explain the basics of dissolving the emotional link between early trauma and addiction. Scott uses the application of mindfulness that he developed called "The Living Inquiries" to undo the fusion between traumatic memories and the emotions and sensations that are connected to them. The Kiloby Center uses a "trauma first model" for addiction recovery, where the first weeks of treatment for addiction at his Center are focused on early traumatic events. The course will demonstrate basic mindfulness tools and then explain how to un-fuse traumatic memories from emotions and sensations. Scott calls this "undoing the Velcro Effect." When clients are taken through the Living Inquiries extensively in a series of private sessions, the result is usually that they no longer feel the emotional connection to the trauma. This has a positive effect on current addictive behavior that is often linked to the fight/flight/freeze response developed during early traumatic events. The course will also provide key ways to help people begin deep somatic work to further resolve blockages in the body related to these early traumatic events.
Three Questions (for CEUs):
What is self as context rather than self as thoughts, emotions and sensations?
What is the Velcro Effect and how does it help with dissolving early trauma?
How is working with early trauma helpful for current addictions?
